Cleveland Elementary School is located in the hills above the eastern side of Lake Merritt. The Cleveland Heights neighborhood is entirely residential and most of the students are from the immediate community, but Park Boulevard to the east offers a public transit option to students from other nearby areas. The Lakeshore/Grand Shopping District to the north-west beyond I-580 is the closest commercial area, but features several grocery stores and small businesses, and a popular farmer's market at Splashpad Park every weekend.
