Fruitvale Elementary is located in the Lower Dimond District just south of I-580. The neighborhood in this area is fully residential, but students and families can travel a few blocks, pass beyond the freeway, and reach the commercial areas at the upper end of Fruitvale Avenue, itself. The school site is adjacent to Curt Flood Field, which has a full-sized football field, and a pair of baseball diamonds for recreation and play.
