La Escuelita is located in the Merritt District on 3rd Avenue, in the same vicinity as the OUSD Administration Building, Laney College, the Oakland Museum, Dewey High School, and Met West High School. La Escuelita, itself, is undergoing construction and reprogramming to become part of the new Downtown Educational Complex for OUSD. The neighborhood is also very nearby Oakland Chinatown, which features a mix of residential and commercial development, transitioning into warehouses, train tracks, and port-related industry to the south-west.
