Maxwell Park Elementary School is situated in the foothills of East Oakland in a residential setting. The surrounding neighborhood is bordered by High Street to the west, MacArthur Boulevard to the north, and connects with the Fairfax Business District to the south. The school shares its name with a small park nearby, and the community also hosts the Boys and Girls Club of Oakland, a diverse range of religious establishments, and the Mills College campus.
