Melrose, the host site for Bridges Academy, is located in the East Oakland flats, on 53rd Avenue between International Boulevard and San Leandro Avenue. In the immediate surroundings is a mostly residential community, however further south this landscape is replaced by industrial sites, warehouses, and then the Oakland Coliseum, Coliseum BART, and I-880 shore up the edge of San Leandro Bay. To the east of the Melrose site at International & Seminary, lies the Rainbow Recreation Center, and to the north about half a mile away is Fremont municipal pool and also OUSD's Fremont High School.
