Redwood Heights Elementary is located in the Oakland foothills near where Redwood Road (35th Avenue) passes over CA-13. The site is in a residential setting with a small shopping center nearby offering access to groceries and a few restaurants. Directly adjacent to the school is the Redwood Heights Recreation Center, and there are several other parks in the area as well as two small college campuses; Holy Names University to the west, and Merritt College in the hills to the east.
