Claremont Middle School is located in the Rockridge District of West Oakland where College Avenue passes beneath CA-24. The surroundings are heavily commercial up and down College Avenue, but branching off from the main shopping avenue is an entirely residential neighborhood. A few blocks away at the intersection of College Avenue and Claremont Avenue is a Safeway grocery store, and directly across the street from the middle school is the Rockridge BART station, and public buses are available heading east into Oakland or west into Berkeley toward the UC campus.
