Montera Middle School, located on the same parcel as Joaquin Miller Elementary School, is a 6-8 OUSD program in the Oakland Hills above the Montclair Village Shopping District. The immediate surroundings are entirely residential, however Montclair Village is quite close to the north-west, and Westminster is a short drive in the opposite direction and contains a handful of restaurants and shops. The Oakland Hills area also features a large amount of open space, notably to the east, Joaquin Miller Park, and further up Ascot Drive, Redwood Regional Park.
